FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow do I get started in therapy? It is as simple as contacting us and we’ll guide you through the process. If you don’t know which clinician to see, we’ll help you decide based on each therapist’s specialties and your individual needs. We will send you a link through our patient portal to access the forms to complete. All forms can now be completed on a computer, tablet, or phone. Once the paperwork has been completed, we will call you to schedule your first appointment. How do I make sense of my insurance benefits? Most of our clinicians accept most major insurances. When you first call, we will gather insurance information from you. From there, we will verify your insurance and obtain pre-authorization (if necessary) for services. At that time, we will access information available to us from your insurance company to determine how much you’ll pay for each session based on your deductible, copay and/or coinsurance. We also encourage clients to contact their insurance company to verify coverage. When contacting your insurance company, always get the reference number of the call, as it is the only way to prove what you were told. Can I see a therapist if I don’t have (or want to use) insurance? How much does it cost? Yes! Any of our clinicians can be seen by paying a direct rate, which many people prefer for privacy reasons since we are not required to release a diagnosis to an insurance company. Compass clinicians are empowered to set their own out-of-pocket rates and you are encouraged to email your provider for more information. Additionally, we often have advanced doctoral students working at Compass as practicum students who are fully supervised by a licensed psychologist at Compass. They are able to deliver excellent services at a deeply discounted rate. We accept cash, check or credit cards (including Flex Spending and Health Savings Accounts). Please contact us for more information. How can I get psychological testing? We have several psychologists that provide psychological testing for a variety of issues. The testing process starts with an initial appointment with the provider to discuss your (or your child's) history, current concerns, and the overall testing process. The testing appointment will then be scheduled--ususally within 2 -4 weeks of the first meeting. After testing is complete, a feedback session will be scheduled to go over the results. (Note: pediatric clients only attend the actual testing session.) Many times, insurance will cover all or part of the cost for testing. Psychological testing often requires prior authorization from the insurance company, which we will obtain between the initial and testing appointment. Once we learn the covered portion of testing, you will receive a fee agreement form that details your out-of-pocket costs for testing . Do you do psychological testing for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD)? We can do testing for ADHD/ADD and provide you with a definitive diagnosis. As an outcome of testing, you will be provided with a psychological testing report indicating a diagnosis that you can use to obtain a prescription or work/school accommodations. We do not provide or prescribe medications but can provide you with a referral for a qualified prescriber. Do you prescribe medication? As psychologists and therapists, we do not prescribe medications. Only physicians or other qualified professionals can write prescriptions. We can inform you about your options and give you recommendations on how to obtain medications if it is relative to your treatment. What are your hours? Do you have evening and weekend hours? Our clinicians typically see clients between 9 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Thursday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Friday. However, some therapists may work earlier or later in the day. Evening and late afternoon appointments tend to fill quickly. Our clinicians typically do not provide services on weekends. Please contact us for more information on individual schedules.
