HILL WASHINGTON, PSYD
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Dr. Hill Washington is currently a postdoctoral fellow with Compass Counseling and Psychological Services. After a prior career in law enforcement, Hill completed her doctoral training at Spalding University, with emphasis in both Adult and Health Psychology. Hill completed two years of practicum experience and one-year postdoctoral internship at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, where she developed her skills in treating posttraumatic stress, substance use disorders, and women’s mental health concerns. Hill has a passion for providing a culturally competent and safe space for all first responders and veterans, especially women and their unique challenges.
Hill uses an integrative approach in her practice, with a primary focus on providing a therapeutic safe space anchored in authenticity (and often humor). Her therapy centers around the clients’ values, with a focus on changing controllable aspects of life and practicing acceptance of the uncontrollable parts. As a yoga teacher, Hill also embraces a holistic approach to health and encourages exploration of physical, spiritual, and social health as part of creating a more balanced, meaningful life. Hill is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, an evidence-based treatment for PTSD, and also explores healing from traumatic events in less structured ways with clients. Outside of work, Hill enjoys spending time with her husband and pets (lots of cats). She tries to practice a balanced lifestyle by staying physically active, spending time with her cats, caring for coleus plants, feeding neighborhood cats, getting her weekly fill of RuPaul’s Drag Race, napping with cats, watching Lamar Jackson’s amazing QB skills, and loving all the cats. The balanced lifestyle related to cats is a work in progress. |
